Here's just a small sampling of the natural treasures we are helping preserve and develop.
Revitalize the Boathouse
The boathouse may have been built in the late 1800s along the south banks of what was then Pennesseewassee Stream in Norway, Maine, which begins on the edge of downtown before winding alongside Main Street. The first records of its existence beyond undated photos from the 19th century are in the town’s insurance maps of Sept. 1924; then in photos taken in 1938. The boathouse was built and owned by Leon Marlin Longley (known as L.M.), who had taken over and maintained a successful hardware store and metal fab company on Main Street. The boathouse was enjoyed by his family, and in their downtime, L.M. and his son Forrest built skiffs and enjoyed the lake. Fishing was one of his only forms of leisure and time off, as his successful business came to demand most of his time.
Our mission is to revitalize the boathouse to place where families can enjoy it’s heritage and be a part of its history.
